Hi, my name is Sarah. Nice to meet you!

I live in a small town called Feldkirch in the western part of Austria. I grew up close to where I live now but spent 11 years of my life in Vienna: first to study then to work. I found my passion there, founded this blog, got self-employed and found my love – not necessarily in this order.

Because I love being outdoors, in 2016 I moved back to where I grew up. All across the country (Austria is small though, so it’s not that big of a deal). Since Vorarlberg has a lot to offer with culture, good cafes and beautiful landscape, I enjoy the countryside very much. Vienna – however – will always have a special part of my heart and I visit the city every other month.

What’s my background?

I studied Communications Science and worked in PR & marketing on client side and in (digital) agencies before I started my career as a freelancer in 2014 as a content marketer. Combining my two passions: the digital world with creating content. This blog has been a starting point, my playground and reference.

This blog is all about creating with your hands and enjoying the good things about life – while not wasting food or material. I love to share easy tutorials, delicious food and bits and pieces of my life with you. If you have any question, feel free to send me an email.

I love to create stuff, eat well (especially chocolate), travel and decorate. I try to make my life more joyful, sustainable as well as creative and my goal is to inspire others along the way. A life filled with handcrafted things and homemade food is a good life in my book.

Why am I writing in English?

Back in 2012 when I started this blog, the DIY and crafting scene was very small. There were a few bigger bloggers in America, Australia and also starting in the UK. To connect with them and yes, also reach more people, I started to write in English.

I’m not a native speaker but I feel very comfortable writing in English because I spent some time in English-speaking countries: like as an Au pair in London or student abroad in Perth, Australia.

Now and then I think about switching to German but I like the english language and there’s just so many opportunities to write, speak or communicate in any way in English when you live in Austria. So I’m sticking to it – for now.

DIY

My heart beats for upcycling and using unusual techniques with interesting material like embroidering wood or combining glass and cement or making a lamp out of wool. I created this blog to collect and share my beautiful and creative projects. And as you might notice I’m also very humble (with just a hint of Kayne) and I never over-exaggerate. Never.

If you have any questions regarding one of the tutorials, just comment under the post or write me. If you re-create something, I would love if you share it on social media and use the hashtag #lookwhatimade_diy for me to find it. Happy crafting!

Food

When it comes to food I’m quite a hypocrite. I like healthy savory meals like salads but I love desserts (mainly with chocolate). I make regularly cocktails and mocktails. You can find them in the sidebar under the section “summer drinks”.

All recipes are – at least – my adaption of something and what I love to eat and drink. Currently I’m into canning a lot and preserving fruits and vegetables for winter.

If you re-create some of the recipes, please share it with me – via direct message, email or upload it on social media with the hashtag #lookwhatimade_recipe. Love to see your take on food!

Travel & Lifestyle

As probably everybody I know, I love travelling. When I grew up we hadn’t had much money (I have 5 siblings!), so we didn’t travel much abroad but made a lot of day trips. I still think that it’s important to know your surroundings and there are a lot of gems to find in your neighborhood. So I use this opportunity every weekend. Staycations for the win! I even shared my tips on how to make the best of summer with no vacation planned.

I also love to travel further away and Australia always has and always will have a special place in my heart. Besides studying there for 6 month on the west coast, I took a small sabbatical of two month on the east coast. Currently I’m traveling mostly in Europe like to Liguria, Italy or Mallorca, Spain.

Interior & Decoration

Creating a beautiful and comfortable home is one of my biggest drivers – also to craft and cook or bake.  My boyfriend of 12 years and I just bought (April 2018) a flat here in Feldkirch, Austria. So interior projects are on top of my to-do-list lately.

Since a home has to evolve and fit your needs at any given time, I don’t believe in moving in and having the place thought through.

I’ll create a nice home room by room and I’ll share Interior pictures, DIYs and decoration ideas here with you. Stay tuned!

I love to If you want to read more about me as a person. I wrote a little about myself here, here and here.

Feel free to look around and shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions!
