There’s one thing that I can’t get enough on these cold days: knitted sweaters and cushions. Since I’m working on my own knitted sweaters, I thought I also try my take on a cushion for our sofa. One that’s unique, reflects my style and is modern. I had this idea in my head for quite some time but inspiration didn’t struck until a few days ago. Then I created it within a day. That’s how easy it is.
This DIY also forced me to paint a little and I didn’t notice how good that feels until I had to do it. It’s only a brush image – as simple as it can get. I really like how much you can express with just a few strokes. Also there are boobs. I like them.
What you need for your own felted cushion:
- a linen cushion
- paper
- a thick brush pen
- black felt
- a felting needle
- liquid soap mixed with water
- a thick piece of plastic wrapper
- pins
First you need to draw the shape you want to felt on your cushion. I tried a few single stroke faces until I settled on the woman’s body shape.
Take the felt and felt a thick string with the soapy water.
Pin the felt to the cushion in the shape you decided on.
Now take the plastic wrapper and put it inside the cushion. This will help you that you don’t felt the image through the whole cushion. Take the felting needle and stab the felt wildly with your needle. Make sure that you hold the fabrique up and that the plastic is always on the back of your felting.
In the picture above you see half of the image already felted to the cushion. It took me about two hours to felt the whole image.
I’m so smitten with the look (and feel!) of my new cushion! It goes perfectly with the ikebana my boyfriend made from flora we collected on a mountain.
Now there’s only one thing left to do: snuggle on the couch with my new cushion with a cup of tea and maybe a good book!
Now. Carry on!
