I’m a sucker for pretty packaging. When I buy stuff and don’t only keep the product but turn the leftovers into something useful? That’s really satisfying. Like 2 for the price of 1. So when I got my hands on this Illy coffee, I was a happy girl. You might know how much I love coffee and then these tins?!
I love Illy coffee tins. They aren’t only pretty but are really robust. It would be a pity to just throw them out. So I had a little fun with them. First I turned them into the most obvious: beautiful storage tins.
All you need is:
– a coffee tin
– primer paint
– chalk paint
– a brush
– copper spray paint
– painter’s tape
– scissors
– chalk
Take the lid and spray paint it with the copper. Let it dry.
Take the tin and cover the bottom and top with the painter’s tape. With the paint it might not close properly, so let’s secure it before we paint it.
Now add the first layer of paint with the primer. It will make it easier to add the chalk paint and fix the metal with the top coat. Let it dry completely.
Now add the chalk paint. Let that dry again. Now you can assemble the whole upcycled storage coffee tin and add any typography to the front you want. I went with the ubiquitous “but first coffee”. However you can add just any word and label it to the ingredients found in there.
With the chalk paint they are customizable to fit every purpose and occasion. I could use them in the bathroom but also the kitchen (they are food-safe after all) or just to hide my bits and bots at my desk.
On the 1st of October an illypoint will open in Vienna. It’s a place where you can gather, take seminars around coffee and of course buy coffee (in this useful tins). Go check it out!
Now. Carry on!
